 Back to Articles

By: Dr Gary Robertson DC

Whiplash accidents can cause injuries to a wide variety of body tissues, including muscles, ligaments, joints, discs, nerves and blood vessels.  As a result there can be a wide variety of symptoms that are expressed as a result of a whiplash accident injury.

Common symptoms of whiplash may include:
 *  Headaches
 *  Neck pain and restricted movement.
 *  Pain or numbness in the arms and/or hands
 *  Dizziness, blurred vision and Ringing in the ears
 *  Fatigue, irritability and nervousness

At the Miami Back Institute our team of accident injury specialists will develop a personalized treatment plan for whiplash, chronic neck or back pain, or headaches resulting from auto, car, slip and fall or other personal injury accidents. Assessment and treatment may include a comprehensive physical, orthopedic and neurologic examination, chiropractic, physical therapy and massage therapy.  X-ray, MRI and other neuro-diagnostic examinations will be utilized when necessary.

The Miami Back Institute utilizes a multi-disciplinary team approach in providing care to patients. Our doctors have successfully treated thousands of accident injury cases over the past 20 years. This experience is applied to every patient and every situation and results assure clinical excellence, cost effectiveness and, most importantly, personalized care that helps promote quicker recovery,

With the increase in car accidents today, whiplash injuries have become nearly routine on local roads and highways. The injury itself is always complicated and it is sometimes overlooked by family practitioners or emergency room doctors. Their training and experience leads them to immediate concern for shock, possible broken bones and other serious or life-threatening injuries. Unless a neck injury is readily apparent and the patient expresses feelings of pain, whiplash often gets a low priority in the emergency room. Whiplash symptoms can occur immediately following an accident or may not be seen for days or weeks following the accident.

At the Miami Back Institute our doctors are trained to identify signs and symptoms of whiplash when a patient seeks help at one of our clinics. The Miami Back Institute team of doctors will documents the signs of the whiplash injury and then confirm the findings with x-ray, MRI and other diagnostic testing when appropriate. We offer same day appointments, whenever possible. If you think that you may have a whiplash injury, call now for an evaluation. It's painless and most times covered by your automobile insurance.

Whiplash injuries require proper treatment.  If left untreated, these injuries will lead to chronic pain, psychological uncertainty and possible spinal arthritis.
